Maize futures end sharply weaker

Maize futures ended sharply weaker on Friday‚ tracking lower prices on the Chicago Board of Trade.

The near-dated September white maize contract shed 2.60% to R2‚550 a ton‚ while the December white maize contract slid 2.44% to R2‚622 a ton. The March 2013 white maize contract lost 2.42% to R2‚625 a ton.

The near-dated September yellow maize contract was down 2.13% to R2‚561.20 a ton‚ the December yellow maize contract dropped R1.91% to R2‚615 a ton and the March 2013 yellow maize shed 2.02% to R2‚613 a ton.

The September wheat contract was down R13 to R3‚487 a ton‚ the December wheat contract dipped R1 to R3‚569 a ton and the March 2013 wheat contract was unchanged at 3‚636 a ton.

US wheat futures were trading lower on Friday‚ after Russia said it didn't plan any export restrictions on grains‚ Dow Jones Newswires reported.

Weakness in corn prices was contributing to lower wheat futures‚ as the two grains competed in the animal-feed market. - I-Net Bridge
