SA maize futures ended a little higher on Wednesday‚ supported mainly by the weaker rand against the US dollar‚ traders said.

The rand slid to 8.8254 to the greenback from 8.7595 previously‚ tracking euro/US dollar weakness after another round of disappointing economic data in the eurozone‚ including the German Ifo business confidence index.

White maize for December delivery‚ the most active contract on the South African Futures Exchange‚ lifted R30 to close at R2‚544 a ton. Meal made from the grain is SA’s staple food.

Yellow maize for December delivery‚ the most active contract for yellow maize‚ added R26 to close at R2‚568 a ton. The grain is used mainly as animal feed in SA.
