Johannesburg‚ Dec 3 (I-Net) - South African maize futures ended little changed on Monday‚ with traders attributing the sideways movement to good weekend rainfall in the North West and Free State‚ which offset the firmer international grain prices.
As the largest producer and exporter of soft commodities‚ the US is the main contributor in deciding the world price trends.
White maize for December delivery‚ the most active contract on the South African Futures Exchange‚ was flat (0.01%) at R2‚409 a ton. The white maize March 2013 contract edged up 0.08% to close at R2‚463 per ton. white maize is used as input in vast amounts of food production.
Yellow maize for December delivery was unchanged at R2‚501 a ton and yellow maize March 2013 contract slipped 0.24% lower R2‚529 per ton. Yellow maize is used mainly as animal feed in SA.
Wheat for December delivery‚ however‚ lifted 0.27% to R3‚719 a ton and Wheat for March 2013 delivery gained 0.42% to R3‚826. -I-Net Bridge
