South Africa on Tuesday cut its forecast of maize output for the 2011/12 season to 11.3 million tonnes from 11.7 million tonnes in its previous forecast.

The maize crop will consist of an estimated 6.5 million tonnes of white maize and 4.8 million tonnes of yellow, the government's Crop Estimates Committee (CEC) said.

The harvest estimate was exactly in line with market expectations of an 11.3 million-tonne forecast, according to a Reuters poll. - Reuters
