Cape Town - Western Cape police commissioner Thembisile Patekile, on Tuesday made a concerted effort to ensure visible policing across the Western Cape coast.

Patekile along with a contingent of police officers started at Sea Point and made their way along the coast, ending their operation in Muizenberg.

He said the engagement with holidaymakers was to make good on their promise to ensure the safety of citizens this festive season.

Throughout the year, communities across Cape Town have chastised the SAPS for its lack in resources and its ability to keep up with crime that has permeated the city.

Police spokesperson, Malcolm Pojie said on Tuesday, “concerted efforts to eradicate the proliferation of illicit firearms that threatens the safety of innocent and vulnerable communities yielded excellent results”.

“The same team through concerted efforts expanded crime combating duties to Heinz Park in Samora Machel when they accosted a 37-year-old suspect whilst they performed foot patrols in Magwaza informal settlement.

“The suspect clearly wanted to evade the presence of the members on foot, but was restrained and searched upon which the members found a prohibited firearm and ammunition on his person.

“He was arrested and detained,” Pojie said.
