It is always good to see when certain industries go on a steep growth curve. One such industry is the call centres. We are blessed in the Cape Province to have many international businesses set up call centres which are great creators of employment.

We have thousands of people in Cape Town who can speak different languages and who could easily man call centres servicing the world. It is also encouraging to see that we have a new trade union which has just been registered known as the “National Union of Call Centres of South Africa”. I congratulate them on this move.

It is incredibly pleasing that the Cape Province has this enormous growth in call centres, in particular massive corporations such as Amazon. We need to encourage innovative solutions to create more and more employment. We cannot rely on government to do this for us and it is horrible to think that over 70% of our youth find themselves in the unemployment queue.
