CAPE TOWN - Two Cape Winelands men who raped minor girls have been sent to jail, after the Sexual Offences Court handed down sentencing recently.

SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said they welcomed the sentencing of 34-year-old David Solomons to two life terms on two counts of rape, and four years for sexual assault.

They also welcomed the sentencing of Jerome Adams to 10 and 20 years on two counts of rape.

The 31-year old committed the rape in 2014 on a farm in Wellington.

“With 10 days into this year’s 16 Days of No Violence Against Women and Children campaign, Western Cape police management has welcomed hefty sentences meted out by the Paarl Sexual Offences Court to two child rapists, recently,” Potelwa said.

“In one case, 34-year-old accused David Solomons was sentenced to two life terms on two counts of rape, and four years for sexual assault.

“The court found the accused had raped a 12-year-old girl between 2018 and 2019, on the Mooi Kelder Farm in Paarl.

“In a Wellington rape case involving a 15-year-old girl that was raped, the Paarl Magistrate’s Court sentenced the accused Jerome Adams to 10 and 20 years on two counts of rape. He was sentenced on December 2.”

Western Cape Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile, congratulated the investigation and prosecution teams.

“We hope the sentences will serve as a deterrent to would-be perpetrators of crimes against women and children,” Patekile said.

He encouraged communities to report crimes against women and children to the police. The SAPS can be contacted anonymously at Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
