CAPE TOWN - Three children were among 11 people arrested by detectives attached to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual offences unit (FCS) in George in connection with alleged sexual offences.

Most of the accused appeared in court on Monday.

The minors, one aged 11 and two 12-year-olds, allegedly violated a 14-year-old girl at a children’s home last week.

According to police spokesperson Christopher Spies, the minors were assessed and released into their guardian's care on a warning after appearing in court on Monday.

In Knysna, a 33-year-old was charged with incest after he allegedly sexually assaulted his sister.

Another suspect from the same area was arrested for alleged rape.

“Investigations led to the arrest of three suspects on charges of rape, one for sexual assault and one for attempted rape following incidents where three women were violated at Thembalethu, George.

“Another 28-year-old suspect was arrested at Conville following allegations of sexual assault and domestic violence,” said Spies.

Two suspects were also arrested in Pacaltsdorp and George on outstanding warrants in connection with incidents of alleged rape and attempted rape reported over the festive period.

“All victims were afforded the necessary support by the SAPS. The Western Cape police management commended the team for their vigilance to bring these perpetrators to book. Gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) remains a priority for police and all efforts are being made to ensure that those found on the wrong side of the law face the full might of the law once arrested,” he added.
