Cape Town - Maphorisa, Goodluck and DBN Gogo will light up the stage for the opening of the T20 Women’s World Cup in Cape Town.

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, on from February 10 to 26, kicks off on Friday where host nation South Africa will take on Sri Lanka at the Newlands Cricket Ground from 7pm.

Before the teams take to the field, local musical acts including Maphorisa, Goodluck, DBN Gogo and Rouge will entertain the crowd.

The opening fixture is the first of 12 matches to be played at Newlands Cricket Ground for the biennial tournament. Other games will be played in Gqeberha and Paarl.

On Sunday, India and Pakistan will reignite one of the greatest cricket rivalries at Newlands at 3pm for the second game of the tournament played in Cape Town.

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will close out Sunday’s double header at 7pm.

Gates for the opening match open at 4pm.

The rest of the fixtures for Cape Town are as follows:

  • West Indies vs India – Wednesday, February 15 (3pm)
  • Pakistan vs Ireland – Wednesday, February 15 (7pm)
  • New Zealand vs Bangladesh – Friday, February 17 (3pm)
  • West Indies vs Ireland - Friday, February 17 (7pm)
  • England vs Pakistan – Tuesday, February 21 (3pm)
  • South Africa vs Bangladesh - Tuesday, February 21 (7pm)

Cape Town will also host the two semifinals on Thursday, February 23 and Friday, February 24.

The final will be played on Sunday, February 26.

Fans, residents and motorists are reminded that Campground Road will be closed from the corner of Campground road and Mariendahl road to Palmyra Road between 12pm and midnight.

Public parking is available at Westerford High School on Newlands Main Road, Groote Schuur Primary School on Campground Road and at Groote Schuur High School on Palmyra Road.

A designated Uber Drop & Go area will be made available close to the stadium.
