CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Department of Health aims to administer 26 000 Covid-19 vaccine doses at its vaccination sites across the province this weekend.

Healthcare workers will also be on hand to answer questions and guide eligible individuals through the entire process, whether they are arriving at vaccination sites for their first, second or third vaccine dose.

“Do find out which vaccination site near you will be open this weekend and the operating times. Everyone is welcomed, from those accessing vaccination for the first time to those who are now ready to take their booster shot. This weekend provides yet another opportunity to offer vaccinations to as many people as possible.

“Your decision to get vaccinated will protect you, your loved ones, and our health system,” said the provincial Covid-19 Vaccine Project Office Lead, Juanita Arendse.

The department said individuals can access their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine 21 days after the first dose and they can access their booster shot three months after their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine. In the case of the J&J vaccine booster, clients should wait two months after receiving the first J&J vaccine.

“To those coming for their first Covid-19 vaccine this weekend, make sure you know your mobile number. If you do not have a mobile, take the number of a relative or a friend so that confirmation of your vaccination and the date for your second vaccination dose can be sent to this number.

“Also, bring either your identity document, passport, refugee permit or asylum seeker permit number along,” the department said in a statement.
