DURBAN - A multidisciplinary team of law enforcement has banded together to curb vehicle-related crimes.
Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell said the Marshall Security Special Operations Team, in conjunction with Tracker South Africa, the South African Police Service, Military Police and various other security companies, have joined forces over the past few weeks with one goal in mind – to curb vehicle-related crimes, especially as the holiday season approaches.
“Operations have been held in parts throughout KwaZulu-Natal where various hot spots and chop shops have been identified. All information gathered during the operations is relayed to the SAPS who will be investigating further,” Powell said.
On Sunday, the South African Defence Force (SANDF) said as the festive season drew closer, they saw a rise in vehicles across their borders illegally. The SANDF members of 4 Arty Regt confiscated an expensive single cab Toyota Hilux valued at R520 000 at Gumbu mine while the smugglers were trying to smuggle it into Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the KZN provincial government will launch its integrated, safer festive season campaign while fighting to reduce the predicted spike in Covid-19 cases.
Premier Sihle Zikalala will be joined by Transport, Community Safety and Liaison MEC Peggy Nkonyeni and Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs MEC Ravi Pillay on Tuesday morning to unveil a comprehensive provincial crime combating campaign that will ensure safety over the festive season and combat the spread of Covid-19 infections during this period.
The provincial government said the integrated safety campaign would be launched at the Durban Amphitheatre Beachfront will also cover the back-to-school calendar period.
In a statement, the provincial government said it was working hand-in-hand with the office of the KwaZulu-Natal Police Service Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and the Head of the Road Traffic Inspectorate Victor Chetty, has developed a comprehensive crime prevention strategy in line with the national crime strategy for the festive season and beyond.
“KwaZulu-Natal, especially Durban, is the country's premier holiday destination for both local and international holidaymakers alike. To this end, provincial government has made a concerted effort to open up the economy while ensuring that investors, Small, Medium and Micro-Enterprises and holidaymakers are safe.”
