Durban — A suspect is expected to appear in court again on Tuesday after his arresting officers received certificates for his arrest.

According to the Umbilo Community Policing Forum, Umbilo SAPS station commander Colonel T Munusamy and Lieutenant-Colonel RBW Ximba congratulated Warrant Officer Ram and Constable Pillay for the excellent arrest of a suspect in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“Well done colleagues and keep up the good work,” said Umbilo CPF chairperson Calvin Thomas.

Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said that on May 15, 2022, Umbilo police arrested a 31-year-old suspect after he was found in unlawful possession of a firearm.

“The suspect appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on July 4, 2022, and the case was remanded to August 23, 2022,” Ngcobo said.

Last month, Warrant Officer BM Sibiya, Warrant Officer TMA Ntuli, Constable NR Zondi and Constable TLL Fynn from the Umbilo Task Team were acknowledged for their excellent arrests for possession of unlicensed firearms, positively linked to two cases of business robbery and a further arrest of armed robbery. Their commitment to ensuring good arrests are made whenever they are on duty was acknowledged.
