Durban — A quick response by a multidisciplinary team resulted in the arrest of three suspected business robbers and the recovery of items stolen during a robbery on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.

The complainant said she was on duty on Wednesday at 1.30pm when she was approached by a man who showed her a firearm and demanded to be taken to the safe. He was joined by more suspects who took cellphones and clothing before they fled, police spokesperson Thenjiswa Ngcobo said.

She said a case of business robbery was under investigation at Amanzimtoti SAPS.

ET Rapid Response managing director Tony Lokker said information was relayed regarding a vehicle used in the commission of a business robbery at a shopping centre in Doonside, eManzimtoti.

He said the robbery had taken place at a Pep store.

Lokker said seasoned Community Crime Prevention Organisation members, who were alerted via its network, gained visual of the vehicle and requested backup, whereby members of the SAPS Provincial Vehicle and Trio Task Team, SAPS Umlazi K9 and ET Rapid Response responded.

“A pursuit ensued whereby suspects lost control of the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Members managed to arrest three suspects, as well as recover items taken in the business robbery, including the vehicle used in the commission of the crime,” he said.

Lokker said the vehicle and exhibits were processed by the Local Criminal Record Centre.

“Well done to the members involved,” he said.
