Durban — A man appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court recently after he was linked to the kidnapping of two girls in a township last week.

Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said that two females alleged that on December 5, 2022, they took a taxi to Umlazi K section when they noticed that the driver was taking the wrong route.

Ngcobo said that the suspects allegedly threatened the victims and forced them into a white vehicle.

It is also alleged that the suspect robbed them of their cellphones and cash.

They took them to an unknown destination, tied their hands and legs and later released them when they realised that the police were searching for them

“Police managed to arrest a 28-year-old suspect for kidnapping and robbery.

“He appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on December 9, 2022,” Ngcobo said.

According to information by Blue Security, its Community Crime Prevention Unit, Brighton Beach Community Policing Forum members and security partners assisted Brighton Beach SAPS Detectives in apprehending a suspect after two young girls were kidnapped on Monday.

“The team immediately responded to the call from the police, who requested support to search for other victims.

“The two victims who were released last night (Wednesday) were abducted from Umlazi and allegedly kept in a suburb south of Durban.

“Investigations led the teams to a suspect who was associated with a vehicle that was used in the abduction after the victims pointed him out,” Blue Security said.

“A suspect was arrested at the Umlazi taxi rank this afternoon (Thursday).”
