Actress Mampho Brescia is back and fiercer than ever in Showmax's new drama “Soft Life”, which will premiere in November.

Best known for her role as Iris Zungu on “Isibaya”, Brescia, will play Zam, the owner of a high-end escort agency operating under the guise of a luxury business called NubiaBlaq.

Brescia’s return promises a gripping story of wealth, power, and moral compromise.

Her character mentors Owami, played by Zizipho Buti, a young woman who reluctantly enters the secretive world of high-society escorts to pay for her mother’s medical treatment.

"Zam to me is a hustler," Brescia said of her character.

"She’s created her own world to succeed and thrive, and she’ll do whatever it takes to sustain the lifestyle that she wants. She’s a bit sordid and morally corrupt."

For Brescia, the role presents a complex character.

"Zam’s way of life gives for a really rich character because you then wonder why? What happened to her? Why would she decide to embark on such an interesting career line?"

Owami’s story unfolds as she tries to balance her new life with the risk of losing everything, including her sense of self, as she grapples with the demands of supporting her family.

According to Brescia, the show touches on the pursuit of luxury and the sacrifices people make in exchange for a better life.

“There’s this need for women in particular to have a soft life, but how to get that soft life has just been twisted, especially with the erosion of the family unit,” she said.

“We’ve found ourselves in a race where everybody is selling something in exchange for that soft life.”

“Soft Life” also features a star-studded cast, including SAFTA winners Boikie Pholo, Motshabi Tyelele, and Nambitha Mpumlwana, as well as Katlego Lebogang , Kanyi Nokwe, and Ayanda Daweti.

Reflecting on her return to television, Brescia shared her enthusiasm for the project.

“I’m so excited about being on the small screen again and connecting with the South African audience. I feel like the platform is so representative of Africa as a continent and the diversity that is our nation.”

The series will launch with three episodes on Showmax, with new episodes released weekly.
