Isabella, Jacob top names in US

New York - Isabella, Emma and Olivia were the most popular names for girls born in the United States in 2009, while Jacob, Ethan and Michael topped the list for boys, according to the US Social Security Administration.

It is the fifth consecutive year that Jacob has been the preferred name for boys. Michael dropped to third in 2009 after four years in the No. 2 slot.

Isabella captured the top spot in 2009 after being No. 2 for the previous two years, behind Emma and Emily.

Sophia and Ava rounded out the top five names for girls in 2009, while Alexander and William completed the list of boys names.
