Nedbank Running Club dominates Comrades Marathon top three in men’s race

Durban - Nedbank Running Club athletes, Tete Dijana, Edward Mothibi and Dan Moselakwe were the top three runners to crossed the finish line for the 95th Comrades Marathon 2022 on Sunday.

Dijana from the North West finished first in 5 hours, 30 minutes and 38 seconds.

Dozens of supporters flocked to Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban to support the athletes and to see the “Ultimate Human Race” in person.

The family of defending men’s champion Edwin Mothibi, who were sitting in the stadium stands, said they were hoping to see him win the race.

However he came in second at 5 hours, 33 minutes and 46 seconds.

His wife Esther was cheering her husband on the big screen with their three daughters, Phemelo, Omphile and Reobametse.

The crowd was in shock when Nedbank runner Onalenna Khonkhobe who was the leading man until Fields Hill slowed down leaving team members Edward Mothibi and Tete Dijana to take the lead.

The third place was taken by Dan Moselakwe.

The brothers’ of athlete and previous champion Bongumusa Mthembu, Thulebone and Sandiso Mthembu said they were disappointed when they saw he was no longer in the top three but said they were glad to be there to see him cross the finish line.

Mthembu came in fourth place.

Herman Britz who ran the race in 2015 said he was at the stadium to support all the runners, adding that the race is no joke as he ran the Up and Down Run before.
