DURBAN – Mthokozi Khathi popularly known as DJ Tira, sent Twitter abuzz with his announcement that patrons would require a Covid-19 vaccination card to gain entry to the Fact Durban Rocks December 2021 event.

Globally artists have used their following to motivate people to get vaccinated amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

In his Twitter post the popular DJ said: “I’m looking at ways to keep you safe. So maybe let me rather ask. Good or bad idea?” – a post he later deleted and replaced with a video of himself being vaccinated.

But his fingers were not fast enough for Twitter users who had already screenshot his post.

Interviewed by The Mercury on Tuesday, Khathi who had earlier also posted a video of himself being vaccinated said: “I feel this is a responsible thing to do and it will help the entertainment industry. It has already been done in countries such as the US to make entertainment areas safe again.

“I have taken the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine myself. I feel that this will work,” he said.

Twitter followers though did not feel so enthusiastic with DJ Tira’s announcement.

Rethabile @Mrs-Bathong said: “It will be you and your (Qwabe twins) sir … not that I was going to attend anyway.”

Blackpiper @blackpiper5 said: “Stop the violence (laughing emoji).”
