Durban - Two brothers who were kidnapped on Tuesday in Pietermaritzburg were released on Thursday after “intense“ negotiations.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala said it was alleged by the complainant that on November15 at 10 pm he received a call from unknown people instructing him to deposit R50 000 in cash in exchange for his siblings to be released.
“He alleged that his two brothers were driving their vehicle when they were kidnapped,” she said.
Gwala said a case of kidnapping was opened at a Pietermaritzburg police station for investigation.
Shaheen Suleiman, the owner of Magma Security & Investigations, said on Wednesday at about 9am there was a report of two Ethiopian nationals that were kidnapped in the Pietermaritzburg area.
Suleiman said the family of the two victims approached Magma Security & Investigations to assist with the negotiations and safe return of the victims.
He said an operational team consisting of Magma Security & Investigations and PMB Trio Crime was then put in place.
“After intense negotiations the two victims were released late on Thursday evening and returned to their families,” said Suleiman.
Police said the kidnapping is still under investigation.
