Durban – One suspect was arrested and suspected stolen items were recovered by police along with security company Marshall Security after a brief shootout with five suspects in KwaMashu on Sunday.

Four of the suspects fled the scene on foot.

Marshall Security said it is alleged that the items recovered were taken during a business robbery at a shop in the Glenwood area.

Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell said team members along with the SAPS Phoenix Trio Crimes Unit and SAPS Crime Intelligence Unit received information about the possible whereabouts of stolen property.

Powell added that all members proceeded to the said location on Bombo Road in KwaMashu D Section and upon arriving on scene noticed the suspicious vehicle, a white Toyota Yaris, with the five occupants inside.

“The suspects noticed our members approaching and immediately fled from their vehicle, opening fire on our team members.

“After a short shootout, one suspect was immediately arrested while the other suspects unfortunately fled on foot and managed to escape in between the houses.”

Powell said that upon searching the suspects’ vehicle, eight computer towers, a TV, four cellphones and business breaking implements were found.

“It was later established that the stolen property had been taken in a business robbery at a well-known stationery shop in the Glenwood area.”

Powell added that police will be investigating further.
