Durban - Private security company Marshall Security has shared details on how a robbery suspect was arrested after a high speed chase on the N2 on Friday following a business robbery at Musgrave.

Police said that a gang of 13 suspects robbed the business premises in Musgrave.

Tyron Powell, Marshall Security managing director said that their members responded to a business robbery at a well-known shopping centre in the Musgrave area.

“While responding, our members received information from the SAPS Crime Intelligence that a large gang of suspects had fled the scene towards the N3 highway in three separate vehicles, a white VW Polo, a silver Toyota Etios and a white Suzuki Swift,” he said.

Powell added that their members, together with the SAPS Phoenix Trio Crime Unit and the SAPS Provincial Trio and Vehicle Theft Unit, strategically positioned themselves on the N2 south-bound just before the M7 off-ramp.

“A short while later two of the three wanted vehicles were spotted travelling at high speed on the N2 south-bound, passing our team members. Our team members immediately responded and after a short high speed chase, both vehicles were brought to a stop and multiple suspects fled from their vehicles. One suspect was immediately arrested, however, after an extensive search, the outstanding suspects managed to evade arrest after fleeing into a nearby dense bush,” he said.

Powell said that the same suspects and vehicles were apparently also involved in a business robbery earlier in the day at a well-known shopping centre in the Sea View area.

The Daily News reported that police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said the incident happened at 5.45pm on Friday.

“Thirteen males entered a business premises on Musgrave Road and pointed firearms at the staff and customers. They demanded cash, and took cellphones and perfumes before fleeing. One suspect was arrested on the N2 south-bound,” she said.

Ngcobo added that a case of business robbery was opened at Berea SAPS for investigation.
