Durban – Three people have been rushed to a hospital in a critical condition after they were shot during an armed robbery at a restaurant in Umgeni Park in Durban on Thursday night.
According to Emer-G-Med Paramedics spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, just after 7pm on Thursday night, Emer-G-Med paramedics together with multiple emergency service agencies responded to the scene of a shooting incident at a popular restaurant.
He said when paramedics arrived at the scene, three people were found to have sustained critical gunshot wounds.
“Advanced Life Support intervention was needed to stabilise them before they were rushed by ambulances to nearby hospitals for further medical care,” said Van Reenen.
He said police were on the scene and would investigate further.
Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell, said three patrons sustained gunshot wounds after an unknown number of armed suspects held up a well known restaurant.
He said at approximately 7:30pm the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre was alerted to a business robbery and shooting incident which occurred at a Browns Drift Road establishment.
Multiple armed response officers and members of Marshall’s Special Operations Team were immediately dispatched to assist.
“Upon their arrival it was established that during the business robbery, three patrons were shot and sustained several gunshot wounds and were treated and stabilised on scene,” said Powell.
He said the injured were then transported to hospital for the further medical care that they required by paramedics.
“The suspects held up patrons and staff members in the restaurant and stole an undisclosed amount of cash, cellphones and other unconfirmed items of value,” said Powell.
Police have been approached for comment.
