Nissan is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its Hardbody nameplate with a range of special edition models.

Though the company is remaining tight-lipped about the features that this edition will have, it has released the prices, with discounts of between R20 000 and R30 000 across the range.

To sweeten the deal even further, Nissan has announced a class-leading warranty that now covers the Hardbody range for six years or 150 000km.

Around 300 000 Hardbody models have been sold in South Africa since the nameplate was first introduced in 1988.

This first generation was replaced by the current model in 1999. However, the current design form dates back to the facelift of 2002, which saw the locally-assembled bakkie range gain a bolder front end and a new dashboard.

The range was again upgraded in 2007, when the 'NP300' moniker was added to the front of its name and a new 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine was introduced. The range was also simplified to make way for the more upmarket, and imported, Navara line-up.

The Hardbody enjoyed success off the beaten track too, tackling the Dakar between 2002 and 2005 and the SA Off-Road Championship - with 57 victories from 72 events between 2001 and 2005.

As mentioned, the 25th anniversary models will be available at a special price when they go on sale in September this year.
