Listen up, super-rich. Just because you happen to have R15.3-million burning a hole in your back pocket doesn't mean you can get behind the wheel of Ferrari's new dream car.
The LaFerrari might be laughably named and extremely expensive, but less than a week after its Geneva Motor Show unveiling more than a thousand well-heeled drivers have requested one from Ferrari.
Problem is, Ferrari will only be building 499 of them and while the company happily boasts about demand outstripping supply, they've said nothing about extending its production run.
Those lucky 499 can look forward to titillating performance. The LaFerrari's hybrid system, which pairs a V12 petrol engine with an electric motor, pushes a system output of 558kW and is said to be capable of a 0-100km/h run in less than three seconds.
Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo described it as “the highest expression of excellence of our company: technological innovation, performance, futuristic style, driving pleasure. It is an extraordinary car, destined to our collectors.”
