Following the upgrade of the Volkswagen Amarok bi-turbodiesel, which saw its output rise from 120kW to 132kW, it's now the turn of VW's base engine to pack on the power.
This 2.0 TDI motor has been given a 13kW power boost, raising its maximum output from 90kW to 103kW while its peak torque figure of 340Nm from 1600rpm remains unchanged.
That really sounds like the recipe for a speedy worker. In fact the VW now sits atop the entry-level diesel pecking order, which includes the 100kW/314Nm Mitsubishi Triton, Ford Ranger (88kW/285Nm), Isuzu KB (85kW/280Nm) and Toyota Hilux (75kW/200Nm).
The 103kW TDI is available in both single cab and double cab body styles, each also offering a choice between rear-wheel drive and 4Motion four-wheel propulsion.
All of them come with a five-year/90 000km service plan, with intervals set at 15 000km, and there's a three-year/100 000km warranty in place.
