Hoping to bolster its position in the cut-throat entry-level bakkie market, Nissan has added some extra safety and comfort features to its NP200 and has also extended its warranty.

Previously guaranteed for just three years and 100 000km, Nissan is now backing this bakkie for six years or 150 000km.

The good news continues on the safety front where the base model is now available with an optional safety pack, which adds driver and passenger airbags as well as ABS brakes with EBD.

This 1.6-litre 8-valve base model can also be had with air conditioning for the first time, albeit this is also something you'll pay extra for.

The aforementioned safety features and the aircon are now fitted as standard to the 1.5-litre dCi diesel base model, while the 1.6-litre 16V ‘S’, which previously only had a driver airbag, now has a passenger-side airbag too.

Nissan SA sales director Johan Kleynhans said: "The NP200 line up is now by far the most complete half-ton LCV offering in the market today, and as such is ready to not only to retain our extensive customer base, but also stands fully equipped against as the ultimate package to welcome new customers to the Nissan LCV family."
