Peugeot has unveiled yet another concept car as the marque gloats about its more stylish new design language. What makes this one different is its practical format - the HX1 was designed to combine space for up to six people in a sporty, stylish and highly efficient package.
To achieve this, the HX1 boasts extreme aerodynamics ('flaps' are deployed to optimise aero efficiency according to vehicle speed) as well as a low-by-MPV-standards architecture and a HYbrid4 power plant that incorporates 'plug-in' technology.
Access to the cabin is via four reverse-opening 'half-scissor' doors that allow accessibility under all circumstances. The passenger compartment is structured to offer maximum comfort for the two passengers in the rear row and maximum sensation for front occupants. If required, two retractable seats can be configured in a centre row due to a clever system of “pull-out seats” that are integrated behind the front seats.
Its numerous cabin novelties, including a futuristic-looking dashboard and seats, natural oak fittings with inlaid fibre optics, digital displays, touch screens and LED lighting strips are all in place to create an environment where modernity meets refinement. This car will even make you coffee, with the Carrare marble rear centre console including a coffee machine and minibar.
The technological assault continues beneath the skin, with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that mates a 152kW 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine to a 70kW rear-mounted electric motor to allow all-wheel drive and a combined output of 220kW. The concept's lithium-ion batteries can also be recharged by plugging the vehicle into a standard 240V electric socket, allowing the driver to cover 30km on electricity alone.
