Toyota SA has confirmed that production at the Toyota SA plant in Prospecton, Durban has halted following a strike by one of its component suppliers.
Members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa embarked on a protected strike at the Toyota Boshoku plant in Durban on Wednesday 17 October.
Toyota Boshoku is an independent component supplier to Toyota SA, providing supplies seats and door panels for use in all locally produced vehicles.
A Toyota SA statement emphasised that the strike was not instigated or supported by workers at the Prospecton factory and the plant continued with planned production until the Boshoku strike stopped component supply.
The matter would be dealt with, it said, by members of Toyota Boshoku South Africa and Numsa.
