Volkswagen's Tiguan has now joined the Golf, Polo, Polo Vivo and Touareg in being endowed with the company's efficiency-enhancing BlueMotion technology.
Signifying an idle-stop system and regenerative braking, the BlueMotion badge will now be worn by three models 4x2 in the range: The 90kW and 110kW versions of the 1.4 TSI and the 81kW 2.0 TDI.
This also marks the first time that one of VW's TSI turbopetrol engines is being combined with BlueMotion technology in South Africa, a move that VW claims makes them 'best in class' in terms of consumption and CO2 emissions.
On that note, the company claims combined fuel consumption of just 6.5 litres per 100km, (equating to just 152g/km of CO2) for the 90kW TSI, and 6.7 litres per 100km (156g/km) for the 110kW version.
Naturally the 81kW 2.0 TDI turbodiesel is even more frugal, its official numbers amounting to 5.3 litres per 100km on the combined cycle and emissions of 139g/km.
This upgrade comes at the very tail end of the current model's life cycle - a facelifted model has already been shown overseas and should be making it way here soon.
