This, lovers of the Blue Oval, is what a bog-standard, road-legal production model Ford Fiesta ST can do in the hands of an expert, on one of the most difficult test tracks in Europe.

The Fiesta ST, due in South Africa in the second quarter of 2013, qualifies as one of the hottest hatches there is, with its 132kW, 1.6-litre Ecoboost engine - good for 0-100km/h in less than seven seconds and 220km/h flat out.

But that's not what this video is all about. The standard Fiesta is known for its razor-sharp handling and velcro-like roadholding - and the ST sits 15mm lower on suspension specially tuned by the go-fast guys at Ford Team RS, where they build things like S2000 Fiestas for the World Rally championships - and its level of grip is extraordinary, even on three wheels.

The test circuit in this video is the infamous Track 7 at Ford's Lommel proving grounds in Belgium - 20 turns and some radical elevation changes in only 4.3km, with no straights to relax on and no room for error. The driver is Ford test pilot David Put. Respect.
