South Africa’s newest Chinese car brand was officially launched at a glitzy event in Sandton City on Friday evening.

The brand, owned by Chery but operating as a separate entity, has hit the ground running with two high-value medium sized SUV products that will hit local showrooms from September 21.

The Jetour Dashing, a five seater with striking looks, is priced at R439,900 in base form, with the Deluxe version coming in at R469,900.

In terms of size, the 4,590mm long Dashing is slightly larger than the Chery Tiggo 7 while the 4,749mm X70 Plus has a similar footprint to the Chery Tiggo 8.

The Jetour and X70 Plus are both powered by a 1.5-litre turbopetrol that pairs with a six-speed DCT dual-clutch gearbox and produces 115kW and 230Nm.

Two additional SUV models, the rugged-looking T1 and T2, are set to arrive in 2025.

Jetour Auto President Mr Li Xueyong said the carmaker aimed to sell its first 2,000 units in South Africa before the end of this year, and has ambitions to sell a cumulative 30,000 units over the next three years.

Founded in 2018, Jetour is currently represented in 60 countries around the world and has sold over 1.22 million vehicles globally.

Jetour will kick off its South African sales operation with 40 dealer partners and the importer also has a warehouse in Midrand which already stocks more than R100 million in parts.

“We’ve proudly partnered with over 40 dealers in key locations across South Africa, bringing together top dealer groups, independent specialists, and local experts. This diverse network ensures that our brand is well-represented and, most importantly, that our customers receive exceptional care and support,” said Jetour South Africa Vice President, Nic Campbell.
