A 39-year-old Polokwane man has been sentenced to an effective 25 years in jail for raping his teenage stepdaughter while her mother was at work.
The rapist, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, was sentenced in the Maake Regional Court.
Limpopo police said the incident took place more than 14 years ago, in December 2010 when the child was 15-years-old.
“The victim and her younger brother were left alone at home while their mother was at work.
“The stepfather deceived the victim by claiming he was sent by their mother to give them snacks, then proceeded to rape her.
“This abuse happened twice before the victim reported it to her mother, leading to the stepfather's arrest,” said police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
Limpopo police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe commended the investigating officer's diligent work and all involved parties for ensuring justice was served, and another child perpetrator was put behind bars for a long time.
In another horrific rape incident, an 18-year-old who raped and killed a toddler has been jailed to an effective 25 years.
Frans Hendricks, 18, was sentenced in the High Court of South Africa sitting in Makhanda in the Eastern Cape.
The National Prosecuting Authority said the toddler was raped and killed on November 19, 2023.
At the time, Hendricks was a minor — 17-years--and-eight-months.
The incident took place on Uitkomst Farm, KwaNojoli, previously Somerset East.
He had been drinking with the child’s grandfather when the incident took place.
