The Eastern Cape Department of Education MEC, Fundile Gade, has officially handed over the newly constructed Ngcingo Primary School to the community of Amangutyana A/A in the Alfred Ndzo East District. This milestone marks the end of a long wait, after 37 years of learners receiving their education in inadequate mud structures.
Hundreds of community members gathered to celebrate the official opening, a momentous occasion that represents a significant investment in the future of the area. The R27.1 million project, which commenced in 2012 and was completed in June 2014, provides a modern educational facility that comprises:
- 1 Administrative Block
- 19 Classrooms
- A Multi-Media Centre
- Dining and Nutrition Centre
- Security Fencing
- Assembly Slab
- 5 Rainwater Tanks
- Ablution Facilities
The new school is seen as a beacon of hope for the community, offering an improved learning environment for the children of Amangutyana A/A.
In his address, MEC Fundile Gade expressed his delight in seeing the project finally come to fruition:
- “This is not just a school, but a symbol of what is possible when we invest in our children’s education. For 37 years, these learners had to endure learning under tough conditions. Today, we open the doors to better opportunities and a brighter future.”
- To further assist the learners from disadvantaged backgrounds, the Office of the MEC also donated 100 pairs of school shoes to the students, ensuring that they have the necessary resources to stay focused on their studies.
- “No child should be hindered by their circumstances. We are committed to making sure that our children have what they need to succeed,” said MEC Gade.
The community of Amangutyana celebrated the event with joy, as they finally witness the benefits of development in education for their children. The school is expected to be a cornerstone for educational excellence in the area for years to come.
