While there are no further updates on Pravin Gordhan’s health, prayer vigils will be held on Wednesday wishing the former Minister a speedy recovery.
The NIC 130 Organising Committee will be hosting a candlelight vigil for Gordhan at the 1860 Heritage Centre in the Durban Central Business District from 6pm while a vigil has also been planned to take place at Flame of Democracy at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg, also from 6pm.
On Tuesday, the Gordhan family announced that the 75-year-old former politician had been admitted to hospital.
“The family of the former Minister of Public Enterprises, Mr. Pravin Gordhan, would like to inform the media and the public that he has been admitted to hospital.
“Mr Gordhan is receiving the best available medical care. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time. Further updates on his condition will be provided,” the family statement read.
Family spokesperson, Adrian Lackay, told IOL that there were no further updates available on Gordhan’s health or why he was taken to hospital.
It is believed that Gordhan had been sick for a while. Last month, he was advised by a medical doctor to refrain from travelling. This caused him to miss a Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises meeting.
Gordhan retired from active politics following the May 29 elections this year.
