North West - The judicial commission of inquiry into the Marikana shootings, with advocates, witnesses, and observers, congregated at the Lonmin platinum mine in the North West on Monday.

Some stood under umbrellas as they waited in the scorching sun for an in-loco inspection to start.

Residents from the nearby informal settlement approached the scene, singing struggle songs and carrying placards.

The placards read “Don't let the police get away with murder”.

The crowd shouted “amandla, awetu” while they danced.
