A Verulam resident made a shocking discovery while discarding refuse bags on Thursday morning.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said the homeowner stumbled across a partially amputated human foot.

The incident took place at Fig Place in Trenance Park.

RUSA boss Prem Balram said their operations centre received a call just after 8am after making the discovery.

"On arrival, Reaction Officers were directed to a grass verge next to the road where the partially amputated human foot was located. It could not be confirmed if the limb was discarded at the location by a dog."

KwaZulu Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said police in Verulam have opened an inquest docket following an incident in which a community member found what looked like human remains in Trenance Park area in Verulam on Thursday morning.

"Police responded to the scene and Search and Rescue unit was dispatched. No other body parts were found and investigations are ongoing."

In another incident, body parts were found on the side of the road in Amouti in KZN in October this year.

Emergency workers found a human torso with the arms still attached on a grass verge next to the main road.

That same month police confirmed that a murder investigation was under way after human body parts — including a penis — were found at a dump site in the Lusaka area at Amaoti, in Inanda.
