Snowfall has been reported across areas in the Eastern and Northern Cape and in parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
At the weekend the South African Weather Service (Saws) issued a warning for icy temperatures in the wake of another cold front.
On Tuesday, the forecaster issued a severe weather alert of damaging winds along the country's south-west coast.
"Isolated showers are expected over the eastern areas but scattered over the north coast of KZN," Saws warned.
"Cloudy conditions are observed over the eastern parts of the country due to a surface high pressure ridging in the north-eastern areas. Otherwise, fine skies," the forecaster added.
Saws forecaster, Spesihle Dlamini said there's no snow expected over the country for the week.
He said the cold front is passing through Mpumalanga, and the weather is expected to ease up over most parts of the country.
"This weather is normal for September. We are still in a transitional period between winter and summer, so these weather patterns can be expected. You find that weather systems that affect us between the seasons can affect us at different times," Dlamini said.
He added that in KZN, the weather will be warming up over the areas of Ladysmith, along the country's north-western areas.
Dlamini said a Yellow Level 1 warning for damaging winds has been issued between Cape Columbine and Cape Agulhas for Wednesday.
He added that there is a chance of isolated thunderstorms in the KZN Underberg area.
