Veteran musician Freddie Gwala, known for chart-topping hits such as Amadamara, Khipidayimane, Tshidi S’khelekhele and Ufile is the latest public figure to raise awareness to gender-based violence and substance abuse.

Gwala will add his voice to the fight against GBV when he performs at the annual #Enough With Our Sisters music event on Women’s Day at the Mzansi Resort (formerly Morula Sun) in Mabopane. He will be joined by actress Sophie Ndaba, barcardi sensation and Moja Love Rekereke show talent Phindi Maphendula.

Supporting the star-studded casts to entertain the masses at the event are award winning gospel singer, Paul K, Schoolboy, Mawisa, DJ Pro, Machuchu, Tino Mash, Nutty Nice, Machance, Noise, Topito, Thabang Stylist and Sir Joshua.

Speaking during a press conference, Gwala said that he was honoured and felt privileged to be part of this initiative as it meant a lot for him as a father, brother and a loyal advocate of gender based violence.

“It is so unfortunate that we are leaving in times when women and children are victimised and targeted to a point that they cannot walk around the streets safely. This is has to stop, somebody has to say or do something.

“We need to rally together as a country and raise awareness against this senseless abuse of our sisters and children. Initiatives such as #enough help us raise awareness against abuse and give voice to those voiceless.”

Event organiser Tebogo Managanye said that this year they will pay tribute to 5-year-old Ditebogo Phalane Jr, who was fatal shot by robbers who were hijacking his father in Soshanguve.

“We together with baby Ditebogo’s parents will be hosting a candle-lighting ceremony in honour of the departed little hero. This is symbol of unity with the bereaving family and also a way of raising awareness against this senseless abuse and killings of innocents in our country.”

Tickets are available at computicket for R150 and R200 at the gate.
