Budding singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Will Linley, continues to carve out a reputation for himself in the music industry, as he returns with another heartfelt single, “Just Because I Called You.”
Linley, from Cape Town, made a bold entrance a few years ago and has maintained his consistency as a performer of music that appeals to a broad audience, boasting a list of much-loved pop songs such as Miss Me, Magic, Tough, and Last Call, among others.
With a glittering career packed with memorable experiences, Linley says he counts his lucky stars, sharing details of his new music as well as his performance at the eagerly-awaited 947 Joburg Day.
“So the latest song is called ‘Just Because I Called You’, which came out today. It is a song that is actually three years old. I wrote it the same summer that I wrote ‘Miss Me When You’re Gone’ and I had the chorus, but I have been sitting with the chorus for three years. But we have been rewriting and reworking the song until it actually felt right. And finally, I feel like we landed in a spot where it feels like there's a perfect cohesion between the world that I want to build and pushing us into the new path world, and I am so excited to get it out.”
Recounting some of the finest moments of his journey, he spoke about playing at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago's Grant Park, and opening for well-known acts like One Republic and Maroon 5.
“One of the highlights was getting my first song out into the world, but I guess if we are going on recent things, I think playing at a festival like Lollapalooza was unbelievable. Opening for One Republic and playing at Cape Town Stadium and Joburg Stadium with Maroon 5 was unbelievable, and hopefully those experiences do not stop.”
Asked what kept him going and motivated, he said: “It is the fans; it is the people that are listening to the songs. It is ridiculous to me that this is my job; I count myself as one of the luckiest people in the world. And so, there are some days where I am like, I don’t know if I can do this anymore, and then I think of the people who showed up this morning to come to the show. Or who are queuing up to come early to a show, and that for me is the most humbling and incredible thing ever.”
With Linley set to grace the Galaxy 947 Joburg Day event, he said attendees should brace themselves for a memorable experience mixed with dance and good music.
Galaxy 947 Joburg Day will get together family and friends under the Joburg sun, immersing themselves in the captivating sounds from the finest line-up that the whole family will love.
