One of Cape Town’s most popular Padel events will close out its sporting year with a bang in Paarden Eiland this weekend.
This weekend, at the Virgin Active Padel Centre, Padel4Good will host another blockbuster double-header which will serve as the perfect conclusion to a successful year for the sporting charity.
2024 has seen Padel4Good break ground in many ways, not only did the brand roll out its first double-header event in August, but it has provided opportunities for South Africa’s top Padel athletes with the introduction of elite men and women’s events during the year.
The sporting charity, which has donated thousands of rands and essential gifts to homes and charities across Mzansi through funds raised at the Padel4Good events, has showcased top and upcoming athletes, including Jackie Booth, Karen van Huyssteen, Luan Krige, Erin Peters, Rafik Romaney, Chris Hodgson, and many more.
Every show thus far has been a sold-out event as more people are being introduced to the latest craze, Padel, a racquet sport that combines elements of tennis, squash, and badminton.
This weekend’s shows will cater to athletes between the levels of 1.5 and 3.5. The men’s event will take place on Friday (6 p.m.), and the ladies' event will close out the double-header on Saturday, starting at 12 p.m.
Padel4Good's success over the past 24 months bodes well for the brand’s future and the brain trusts are excited about potentially introducing new initiatives in 2025.
“It’s been incredibly rewarding to witness the growth of the Padel community through Padel4Good. Every month, we see a mix of regular players and new faces, which is wonderful because it means the word is spreading, and more people are coming out to support the cause,” says Padel4Good’s Kathleen Barker.
“It’s a testament to the community’s generosity and enthusiasm for the sport and giving back. Organizing these events each month is an honor, knowing that we’re able to direct funds to local charities making a real difference — from afterschool programs for children to shelters for women in need. We are meeting soon to discuss plans for the future. Looking ahead, our goal for 2025 is to secure more sponsorships so we can expand our impact even further and continue helping those who need it most. If there are organizations in need of donations, we invite them to reach out to us. We’re always looking for places to help and make a meaningful difference,” added Barker.
