Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has raised concerns over the scheduling of fixtures in the Betway Premiership by the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

The league got off to a late start this year, with the new season normally beginning at the end of August. This time the new league season kicked off in mid-September.

Chiefs, however, would have been in action earlier if they had qualified for the MTN8.

The mighty AmaKhosi could only manage a 10th place finish in the league last season, and thus did not qualify for the top-eight knock-out competition.

Long wait on the sidelines

The MTN8 began at the beginning of August before wrapping up the semi-finals by the start of September.

All this while Chiefs sat watching their rivals on TV.

However, once the league resumed Chiefs have played three games on the trot over a two-week period, winning their first two before losing their third over the weekend. That loss, of course, came against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.

Now with the Fifa International break, Chiefs are next in league action on October 26 with a trip to Pretoria to take on SuperSport United. That will be a gap of almost a month between fixtures, although they are pencilled in for a Carling Knockout match on the weekend of October 19, but the fixtures have not yet been confirmed.

“We started on 16 September and played three games and we stop, guys please,” said Nabi.

In fact, Nabi went on to reveal that his charges would play a friendly game against Sundowns during the next break.

“We’ve scheduled some friendly games and among the teams that we are going to face, we also have Sundowns.”
