After thrilling audiences across the globe over the years, world-renowned music legend Engelbert Humperdinck is set to captivate Gauteng audiences.

The British crooner has earned widespread acclaim for his timeless classics and heartfelt performances over an impressive career spanning around six decades.

As part of “The Last Waltz Farewell Tour”, which is Humperdinck’s final hoorah, he will take to the stage at the SunBet Arena at Time Square Casino in Pretoria, before making his way to the Grand Arena at GrandWest in Cape Town.

The 88-year-old, whose real name is Gerry Dorsey, rose to fame in 1965 as he enchanted listeners with his romantic melodies such as “A Man Without Love” and “The Last Waltz”.

He has sold over 150 million records worldwide and has received numerous accolades, including four Grammy nominations and a Golden Globe for Entertainer of the Year.

Humperdinck is also one of only a handful of artists with a star on both the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Las Vegas Walk of Fame and he is regarded as one of the most beloved entertainers of all time.

In a recent interview, Engelbert explained that he has always approached his music “with a romantic touch, singing these wonderful lyrics about love”.

He added: “I think romance is what makes the world go round…”

It is his enduring passion for music that continues to resonate with fans worldwide.

Engelbert also shared memories of his childhood in Madras, India, where his love for music blossomed within his family.

He said despite early struggles in his career, he persevered, eventually finding success with hits like “Release Me”, which transformed his life and career.

But his influence extends beyond music, as he formed friendships with icons like Elvis Presley, Dean Martin, Tony Bennet, Jerry Lewis and Sammy Davis jr, who all left a lasting impression on him.

Tickets for Engelbert’s “The Last Waltz Farewell Tour” were sold out in just a few days in the UK and Australia, the event organisers have urged Gauteng fans to book theirs as soon as possible.
