Pietermaritzburg -- Award-winning international actress, Thuso Mbedu, was greeted with screams of excitement when entering the packed hall of her alma mater, Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School, for her first visit in a long time.
Mbedu is back in the country for Ster-Kinekor Cinemas’ SA premier of the movie The Woman King, in which she plays a leading role.

Msunduzi executive councillor, Zethu Sokhela, said the City was proud of Mbedu, while handing over the flowers and some bubbly to the Pietermaritzburg-born movie star.
“You are from the City of Choice, which is second to none. We are proud of you,” said Sokhela.
Security was tight at the school but some were able to steal some photos with the actress.
Mbedu was accompanied by her co-star John Boyega.
The duo joined hundreds who watched the movie at Ster-Kinekor Cinema in Gateway Shopping Mall, Umhlanga on Friday night where Mbedu received a warm welcome.
