THE Durban Magistrate's Court was evacuated earlier today after an unknown person called and told the court there was a bomb on the premises, which would go-off at 10.30am.

The SAPS's explosives and K9 units thereafter conducted a precautionary search.

Colonel Robert Netshuinda, a provincial police spokesperson, said the building had to be evacuated as a precaution and no bomb was found.

"The building has been declared safe,” said Netshuinda.

Some high profile cases that were supposed to be heard in the Durban High Court are sitting at the Durban Magistrate’s Court.

They include the corruption case involving former eThekwini Mayor, Zandile Gumede, as well as the case of four men accused of the 2019 kidnapping and attempted R154m extortion for the safe return of Durban businesswoman Sandra Munsamy.
