A pro-growth agenda and clean administration are doomed, says DA councillor Cilliers Brink, because the EFF has been awarded two seats on Mayor Nasiphi Moya's mayoral committee in the City of Tshwane.
Moya announced her cabinet on Sunday after she was elected. Her cabinet is made up of the African National Congress (ANC), Good Party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) as well as ActionSA, the party that she represents.
She said she would ensure that her committee was held accountable for its collective work to deliver for the people.
Brink, who was removed as mayor, said this coalition would jeopardise the city’s ability to deliver services.
Brink was removed for failing to provide services to the Tshwane residents, especially in townships.
He described the EFF as a party of hate, violence, and chaos, with its national leadership being implicated in the theft of VBS money.
“One of the new EFF members of the Mayoral Committee is Obakeng Ramabodu, notorious for violent and racist outbursts on the floor of Tshwane’s city council.
“Ramabodu has also declared his intention to remove several non-political senior managers in Tshwane, including the city manager Johann Mettler,” he said.
He said the firing of the EFF MMC for Finance in the City of Ekurhuleni, Nkululeko Dunga, was a sign that the party was not good for governance.
“The seeds of the same kind of chaos have now been sowed in Tshwane by the Gauteng ANC and ActionSA,” he added.
Brink said it would be difficult to see Moya constrain the forces that have caused “so much chaos and decay” in Gauteng.
He further said the DA will work with othger parties that have opted not to join what he called a coalition of chaos to protect the progress that had been made in Tshwane under the DA coalition.
“Later this month, the DA will announce the team of councillors who will be responsible for holding the new ANC/EFF coalition to account.”
