Durban - Meet Mekaar Resorts is a three-star, secluded resort near the world heritage site of iSimangaliso Wetland Park, St Lucia and Imfolozi Game Reserve. It’s in Mtubatuba, half an hour from Richards Bay.

Becoming an increasingly popular wedding and conference venue, conveniently central to the KZN North Coast, it has a recently completed 1 000-seater conference-wedding venue and 300-seater restaurant, all under one vast thatch expanse.

There are 11 double-storey airconditioned chalets, each with a television and two bedrooms.

The upstairs rooms have double beds and a full bathroom with bath and shower. The downstairs rooms have two single beds with showers.

There are also seven airconditioned, two-bedroom brick chalets, each with its own lounge, shower, bath, TV set and veranda.

The honeymoon suite has a double bed and bathroom with extra suite trimmings.

Then there are self-catering options. The large log lodge has five large double bedrooms with two single beds per room, each with bathroom facilities and a ceiling fan.

The communal area consists of a lounge, fully equipped kitchen, television and braai area.

Two more self-catering log chalets each have three single beds, a kitchen with equipment, airconditioning and TV set.

There is also a quaint log chapel with stained glass windows set in a tranquil garden.

Musawenkosi Nyeni, the proprietor, has an interest in water features and apart from those on the complex he is hard at work on a water park for children to be completed within a month.

The restaurant offers an a la carte menu from 8am to 8pm, dishing up local and international fare with equal flair.

Meet Mekaar’s busy kitchen caters for year-end and other functions too.

Guests can also chill at the pub in a relaxed atmosphere with soothing surroundings.

The resort is ideally situated to explore the superb natural attractions. Nearby Imfolozi Game Reserve is in the southern section of the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park.

The oldest game reserve in South Africa, it was established in 1895 and is well worth visiting for wonderful sightings of the big five and other game, including the elusive cheetah and wild dog.

The iSimangaliso Wetland Park is one of the jewels of the coastline, with its mosaic of ecosystems – swamps, lakes, beaches, coral reefs, wetlands, woodlands, coastal forests and grasslands – supporting an astounding diversity of animal, bird and marine life.

Meet Mekaar, represented by African Insignia Hotels, differs from most hotels, motels and caravan parks as it is highly personal with intimate surroundings and individual attention from the proprietor.

It’s great for functions and occasions, but also for fun, affordable family stays and quiet getaways.
