Durban - Whether it’s trick or treating with a coven of witches, dipping into some mummified prawns, daring to enter a haunted attic or simply partying well past the strike of midnight, Durban has a few supernatural experiences of the scary kind to offer when the ghosts and ghouls come out to play this Halloween.

l Dolphins and Dragons

Ushaka Marine World has a weekend of frightening fun lined up, with action on both Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1.

Dig out your favourite Halloween costume and start off with some trick or treating alongside witches and dragons, as they make their way through a scary maze to the Wreck Aquarium in the Phantom Ship.

Then at 5pm on each day, join Grelawyth the Wicked Witch, Gravenus the Green Dragon and Esmerelda the Pink Dragon for an interactive musical show in the dolphin amphitheatre, which will see the legendary bottlenose dolphin Gambit getting in on the Halloween horror act.

Tickets are limited, so book in advance at Computicket outlets or at the uShaka Marine World ticketing office

For more information visit: www.ushakamarineworld.co.za or call 031 328 8000.

l Dining fit for Dracula

Marinated mozzarella eyeballs, ghost mashed potato and blood-curdled sundried tomatoes will be tantalising the taste buds at the Oyster Box Hotel, which will be hosting an elegant dining experience with a touch of horror for their Halloween party on Saturday, October 31.

Guests must dress up and be prepared to be deliciously scared with a five-course menu which starts with “scary cocktails” and “wicked fingers” and ends with a syringe soaked berry coulis. There are all sorts of wicked temptations in between.

DJ Vivian and a flair bartender will keep you entertained.

Tickets are R590. To book, contact 031 514 5000.

l Halloween hauntings

Trick or treating is easy enough to do, but would you willingly walk into a haunted house?

The Mystery Ghost Bus Tour comes to Durban on October 29, to host the city’s first “Halloween” tour of haunted places.

Organiser Mark Rose-Christie, who owns and created Mystery Ghost Bus tours of South Africa said the tours have become popular among locals, but increasingly tourists are coming on board to see another side of the country.

Visit www.MysteryGhostBus.co.za. Bookings available at www.QUICKET.co.za, and costumes are encouraged for the Halloween tour.

l Big screen chills

If you prefer to scream at something on the big screen, then two of this season’s movies should satisfy your horror craving.

Crimson Peak releases on October 30 at Imax, and centres around a new bride who discovers that things aren’t all as they may seem at her husband’s home called Crimson Peak.

A new Keanu Reeves film, called Knock Knock, which opens on October 30, is a horror-thriller about what happens when a husband’s kind gesture of help turns deadly.

l Rattle those bones

Durban’s party scene is never scared to dance the night away with ghouls and skeletons. Absolute on Florida Road, Origin in Glenwood, and Rocca Bar in Stamford Hill are some of the party stops on October 30. All bookings at Computicket.
