If you are thinking of travelling, either at home or overseas, check out the packages being offered by various resorts and airlines. Because of the credit crunch, many local hotels and resorts are offering specials at very competitive prices. The visitors for the various sporting events have come and gone, which means there are many rooms waiting to be filled by willing South Africans.
Airlines, too, perhaps more than anyone, are feeling the crunch, so it's a good idea to check out prices for domestic, regional and overseas flights. Airlines need bottoms on their seats. It pays them to ensure their seats are filled even if the price for those seats is less than during the prime seasons. Although airlines suggest that if you book well ahead prices will be lower, our experience has been that it is often possible to get last-minute bargains.
