Chill at a place of water

Kametsi was originally a trout farm, and there are still some trout left. But fishing is on a catch-and-release basis only.

The dams are being refurbished and restocked, so in summer, I will return to try my hand. But I digress…

The main house has a conference venue that can accommodate 50 people, as well as a gym, sauna and outdoor jacuzzi.

We stayed in the main house, and our room had a full bathroom. While lying in the bath, I found I had a perfect view of the sunrise. Such a great way to start your day!

Set about 100m from the main house are four self-catering units, which have shared washing machine/tumble dryer facilities.

Although there is no wildlife on the property, there are plenty of bird species to keep the twitchers happy.

Kametsi also boasts a boardroom with a quirky window that offers guests a great view of the swimming pool and several of the water features.

Kametsi has a three-hole golf course, but if you want a full nine or 18 holes, the Ruimsig Country Club is about one kilometre away.

So when you've had enough of relaxing, you can play golf, visit the Lion Park, shop at Ngwenya Village or visit the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens to have a look at the Black Eagles.

If you are in one of the self- catering units, you can restock from a supermarket close by.

As Kametsi does not do dinner, we tried Angie's Restaurant, which is about one kilometre away and turned out to be a gem. The menu was extensive as were the specials on offer.

After a comfortable night, we were woken by the wonderful smells emanating from the Kametsi kitchen. If you don't fancy a full "fry-up" there is fresh fruit, yogurt and a variety of muffins and cheeses to satisfy the most demanding tastes.
