The resort town of Pennington was named after Richard Pennington and is home to Botha House, built by General Louis Botha for his wife, Annie, on land given to him by Sir Frank Reynolds, a sugar magnate and a member of the colony's legislative council.

Umdoni Park, a sanctuary named after the Umdoni tree, was established by Sir Frank to preserve the indigenous fauna and flora. He presented it to the South African nation in 1920 and the Umdoni Trust was formed.

Today, the park offers wonderful walking trails, excellent birding and the Komba Bird Sanctuary and Nkumbane Dam.

And, if you are into indigenous plants, take a stroll through the local indigenous nursery to appreciate our natural heritage.

Hidden treasures at Pennington include Umdoni Park and the Selborne Hotel, Spa & Golf Estate, only 30 minutes from Durban International Airport.

Hidden among indigenous forests, Selborne's stately manor house and subtropical gardens stretch to a private beach club.

Woven around the natural rock and coastal forest, the estate is home to duiker, mongoose, bushbuck and more than 160 bird species.

A round of golf on their exclusive 18-hole championship course designed by Denis Barker comes complete with game and bird watching, and magnificent views of ocean and indigenous forest.

Accommodation includes presidential suites, garden and golf course suites or standard luxury suites. After a day of golf, unwind and indulge in a spa treatment in the exclusive Selborne Spa.

Dining is a treat as your senses are seduced by the fusion of flavours and fine wines on offer. A variety of gourmet options awaits you, with both fine and casual dining available.
